Blue Tree Acoustics Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) #10

What is Air Tightness Testing?

Air tightness testing, air leakage testing, air permeability testing - these are all the same thing. Air finding its way into a building via routes that are not designed to allow air passage. Ventilation is designed for air passage but cracks, gaps, holes, missing seals etc are not. Air getting into or out of a building through these paths is air leakage.

The loss or cool air in the summer and hot air in the summer through this uncontrolled ventilation increases the energy consumption of a building as lost hot or cold air must be replaced.

In addition, it is not comfortable to have draughts blowing through your building.
