Building Regulations Approved Document E Sound Insulation Testing, Pre Completion Acoustic Testing and Noise Testing


Building Regulations Approved Document E requires that all new residential developments and those formed by conversion or change of use to form residential properties must meet minimum standards of sound insulation.

Blue Tree Acoustics can provide design advice in order that your development meets these standards.

Approved Document E also requires that a sample of separating walls and/or floors in a development undergo pre-completion sound insulation testing. The results of this testing are reported to Building Control in order to demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations. We are ANC registered testers and can therefore produce ANC accredited reports for submission to Building Control.

Approved Document E requires a set of acoustic tests (often called noise tests or sound tests) per 10 dwellings of each construction type. A set of tests comprises 2 walls and 2 floors. This means that if your development has between 2 to 10 dwellings and you have only 1 separating wall type and 1 separating floor type, you will need 2 walls and 2 floors testing.

Walls require an airborne test. Floors require both airborne and impact testing.

Acoustic testing requires the development to be near completion, but without floor finishes down. All doors and windows should be fitted and ceilings and walls should be complete and well sealed.
